Several rumors and leaks across the digital scene suggest that under-display camera technology is so close to happening. ipster Ice Universe has predicted the breakthrough of smartphones with under-display cameras. It is said to occur in the second half of 2021.

Ice Universe suggests that it won’t be a million years before under-display cameras (UDCs) appear on smartphones. Some of the devices expected to include the under-display camera technology are; an Oppo foldable, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold range, VIVO, Meizu, Xiaomi MIX 4, and ZTE.

In 2017, the launch of the Apple iPhone X gave smartphone manufacturers a push. They now had permission to cut notches and holes in their displays. This was done in an attempt to develop all-screen devices.

It has been suggested that the iPhone is finally going to shrink its notch for the first time later this year. Android makers have also been shrinking the size of their cutouts considerably. Some of the android phone makers even tried eliminating it with pop-up cameras.

The target now is to have true all-screens capable of taking high-quality selfies. They would do this while hiding the camera beneath the display like under-display fingerprint readers.

ZTE was the first to show a mass-market under-display camera solution through its Axon 20 5G. However, the camera quality was a little disappointing. And it was also lacking, to say the least.

ZTE has recently confirmed that its Axon 30 will bring the next generation and improved version of the under-display camera, but it’s yet to release more details about it. No other phone companies have made this move before, and this would be their first official time.

The second half of the year will see the official debuts of the Under-display camera. These technology debuts will be including at least the Samsung (folding), Oppo (folding), Vivo, Meizu, Xiaomi (MIX4), and an improved version of ZTE. We are still keeping our fingers crossed until we gain more information
