Blackview, a company known primarily for its rugged smartphones, is working on launching a new category within their product line. Reports suggest the imminent release of the Hero 10 Clamshell, which will be the company’s first foray into foldable phone technology.

Blackview has built a reputation for its durable phone designs, but their product line also includes standard Android smartphones, such as the A200 Pro which utilizes the MediaTek Helio G99 CPU. The company also offers both standard and rugged Android tablets.

The Hero 10 Clamshell on the other hand will come with a 6.9-inch display and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate for a smoother user experience. Powering the device is the MediaTek Helio G99 chipset, the same 4G CPU used on the above mentioned A200 Pro.

Blackview will equips the Hero 10 with a dual rear camera setup, of which the primary shooter will be a 108MP main sensor. While details of the secondary sensor remain undisclosed, a 32MP front-facing camera will tackle selfies and video calls. Storage concerns are likely mitigated by the single configuration offering 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

The Hero 10 will run on Android 13 with Blackview’s DokeOS 3.1 on top, though it may not be the latest version available. The battery capacity will be capped at 2630mAh, which may be downside for some users depending on usage habits.

The phone will adopts a vertical folding design, similar to classic clamshell phones, for a compact form factor. Blackview offers a variety of color options with a vegan leather finish, aiming for both style and comfort. The company has tagged the phone as “coming soon”. But how soon is what we don’t know yet.
