Tecno recently announced its first foldable smartphone, the Tecno Phantom V Fold, at the MWC in Barcelona. The phone features two screens, an external standard smartphone screen with a size of 6.42 inches and an internal foldable tablet-sized screen with a size of 7.85 inches.
According to reports, the external screen is elongated, while the internal screen is almost square. The screens are both AMOLED and have a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, making it ideal for gaming and high-definition video streaming. Additionally, the inner screen supports HDR10+.
One of the interesting features of the Tecno Phantom V Fold is that it is TCL’s first flexible screen smartphone. These mean we should expect more foldable smartphones from the likes of both TCL and Alcatel which should in turn, lead to a decrease in the costs of foldable devices.
Under the hood, the Tecno Phantom V Fold is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chipset, a powerful 5G 4nm MediaTek processor, that is built on ARM Cortex-X2 architecture, along with Mali-G710 MC10 GPU. The test copy we’ve seen so far is pulling a little less than 900 thousand in Antutu benchmark, which is slightly lower than the SoC capabilities.

The phone comes with 12GB of RAM and a storage capacity of either 256 or 512GB. Unfortunately, there is no support for memory cards, which means you cannot expand the storage capacity. The device also features a large 5000mAh battery and supports fast charging with a charging speed of 45W. In comparison, the popular Samsung Galaxy Fold4 has a 4500mAh battery with a 25W fast charging. Although the fold has 15W and 4.5W wireless and reverse charging respectively.
The Tecno Phantom V Fold boasts five cameras, including two front-facing cameras for each screen and three “main” cameras on the rear. The rear camera setup features a 50 MP main camera, a 13 MP wide-angle camera, and a 50 MP telephoto camera. The front-facing camera for the external screen is 32 MP, while the one for the internal screen is 16 MP.
Other features of the phone include an NFC module, a sixth Wi-Fi, Type-C port, and a Hall sensor. The fingerprint scanner is located on the side face of the device. The phone is based on Google Android 13 with HiOS Fold out of the box. It also feature GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Galileo for navigation.
The pricing for the Tecno Phantom V Fold has been announced for India, where it will retail for ₹89999 (or $1,090) for the 12+256 GB version and ₹99999 (or $1,210) for the 12+512 GB version.
So far, the availability of the Phantom V Fold has been confirmed for the Indian market. It remains unclear if the device will be available in other markets like Africa. It also remains to be seen how it will fair against established models from Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo etc., and whether it will live up to the expectations of consumers.
