Data consumption has been a big issue known majorly to users of Instagram. Primary reason for this, is due to the fact that Instagram is majorly image and video based, leading to a higher or increased data consumption.
The problem even gets more intensified for folks in regions with low data speed, or a little more expensive data data charges, as such reducing the usage of the social platform in such regions. Well, Facebook-owned Instagram have taken steps to proffer a temporal solution to the problem. Instagram latest update will come with data saver by default, and these update will be available to all Instagram users worldwide in the few weeks to come.
The new data-saving feature on Instagram will neither pre-load the photos and videos nor download them at high resolution unless the users choose to tap on select ones. This gives users greater control over the media they would like to view on the app and also saves the data, which is the primary focus of this feature. Apart from this, with the feature turned on, the chosen photos and images will load faster since all the media is not being downloaded.
How to Reduce Instagram Data Usage Without Root
To use the data saving feature on Instagram, users have to navigate to;
- Settings->Account->Mobile data use.
- Under ‘Mobile data use’ there will three options as shown in the image below
- Never
- Wi-Fi Only
- Cellular + Wi-Fi
- Choose any one of the options according to their preference.
It important to note however, that this feature is targeted at countries where the network speeds and penetration is low compared to other countries. Instagram is rolling out this feature to users globally in the coming days and you might not see the option right away.
