Tecno, a brand under Transsion Holdings, has just unveiled its first foldable smartphone – the Phantom V Fold – at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 in Barcelona. The Phantom V Fold is the world’s first left-right foldable smartphone to be powered by MediaTek’s flagship Dimensity 9000+ processor.
The model of the Dimensity 9000+ used, is said to be customized specifically for the Phantom V Fold, aimed to delivers outstandingly smooth foldable performance with low power consumption.
In addition to its foldable design, the phone is also equipped with an ultra-clear 5-lens photography system. These camera system brings a 50MP main snapper with a super low-light-sensitive custom sensor, that delivers incredible image output even in lowlight conditions.
The device also comes with two other lenses on the rear, and two front facing lenses. The system creates an exciting photography experience made possible by the phone’s folding design, from enhanced rear-camera selfies to more immersive large-screen video calling.
The Phantom V Fold is being showcased at Tecno’s booth at MWC, and it will also be the only foldable device equipped with the Dimensity 9000+ processor on display at MediaTek’s booth, as part of Tecno’s interactions with its various strategic partners at the exhibition.
Although Tecno has not provided details on the phone’s crease situation or whether it folds flat, an IP rating, and other specs included, the launch of the Phantom V Fold signals Tecno’s entry into the foldable smartphone market.
As foldable smartphones continue to become more widespread, Tecno’s entry into the market with the Phantom V Fold puts it in competition with established brands such as Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi and even Vivo.
