Huawei’s strategic event scheduling is causing yet another ripple shakeup in China, again. The company’s surprise announcement of a launch event tomorrow, April 11th, came from nowhere, without any prior teaser or rumor, and is now forcing competitors to reconsider and reschedule their launch event.
Realme has been teasing the launch of their Neo 6 SE for over two weeks now. The company confirmed about a week ago, that it will be officially announcing the device on the 11th of April, which is some hours from today. However, due to Huawei’s sudden launch event announcement, Realme has decided to bring the event time for the launch of their mid-range GT Neo 6 SE, even though all that Huawei has for tomorrow is not known yet.
Huawei’s History of Strategic Timing
This isn’t the first time Huawei has leveraged launch timing to gain an edge. Last fall, their many-day Mate 60 launch event effectively overshadowed competitor announcements. Now, they appear to be repeating this tactic, targeting key competitor launch dates.
Realme GT Neo 6 SE Launch Postponed
Realme, originally scheduled to unveil the GT Neo 6 SE tomorrow at 2:00 PM Beijing time, has moved their event to a much earlier slot at 10:00 AM Beijing time (3:00 AM WA time) to avoid a clash with Huawei’s event. This move suggests Realme is wary of being overshadowed by the Chinese tech giant.
OPPO A3 Pro Launch Potentially Impacted
Further speculation suggests that BBK Electronics, parent company of both Oppo and Realme, might also need to reschedule the launch of the OPPO A3 Pro, originally set for Friday, April 14th at 2:30 PM Beijing time. This potential conflict arises due to rumors suggesting Huawei might unveil the P70 flagship series at the same date and time.
Huawei’s Daily Announcement Strategy
This week, Huawei has taken an unusual approach, announcing new products daily without revealing details about the next day’s offering. Today, however, they unveiled teasers for the Huawei FreeBuds Lipstick 2 headphones alongside an invitation to their April 11th event, which holds tomorrow.
What to Expect from Huawei’s Event
While the official details remain under wraps, teasers hint at the unveiling of new Huawei MateBook Pro laptops and the Luxeed S7 electric car, for which Huawei supplies the software.
However, the Chinese tech community strongly anticipates the long-awaited announcement of the Huawei P70 flagship smartphone during this prime launch window. We’ll wait to see what Huawei is cooking for their April 11th launch event tomorrow.
