The recently launched OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite 5G has sparked some confusion due to a difference in battery capacity between regions. In India, the phone boasts a 5500mAh battery, while its European counterpart comes with a slightly smaller 5110mAh battery.
Android Authority reached out to OnePlus to understand the reasoning behind this discrepancy, and the company provided the following explanation:
According to current laws and regulations in some European countries regarding battery transportation, there are stricter requirements for handling and transporting battery cells with a rated capacity exceeding 20Wh.
Since the rated voltage of our batteries is 3.88V, the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite 5G in Europe will be equipped with a 5110mAh battery instead of the 5500mAh battery found in other markets.
This explanation might seem puzzling considering other OnePlus phones like the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R are sold in Europe with batteries exceeding 20Wh (5400mAh and 5500mAh respectively).
However, there’s a key difference: both phones utilize dual-cell batteries, essentially consisting of two smaller cells with a capacity around 2700mAh each. Since these individual cells fall under the 20Wh threshold, they comply with European regulations.
In contrast, the Nord CE4 Lite 5G employs a single, monolithic battery exceeding the 20Wh limit, necessitating a reduction in capacity to adhere to European transportation and handling regulations.
The OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite 5G is a budget-friendly phone with a large 6.67-inch OLED display and a capable camera system. The main camera is 50MP with optical image stabilization, and there’s also a 16MP front-facing camera for selfies. It runs on the latest Android 14 with OxygenOS 14.0 on top.
The nNord CE4 Lite 5G is priced starting from ₹19,999 (or $239) in India, while the variations sold in Europe comes with a €279 (or $300) price tag. This article contains all you should know about the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite 5G.
