Qualcomm has expanded its Snapdragon G-series handheld chip lineup with the introduction of the Snapdragon G1 Gen 1, G2 Gen 1, and G3x Gen 2 processors. The new chips are designed for a variety of gaming needs, from cloud gaming to high-end mobile gaming.
The Snapdragon G1 Gen 1 is designed for cloud gaming devices. It features an 8-core Kryo CPU and Adreno A11 GPU. The Snapdragon G2 Gen 1 is positioned for mainstream mobile gaming. It also features an 8-core Kryo CPU, but it uses the more powerful Adreno A21 GPU.
The Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 is the flagship chip in the lineup. It features an 8-core Kryo CPU and Adreno A32 GPU, which Qualcomm says is 30 percent faster and has twice the graphics performance of its predecessor. The G3x Gen 2 also supports 144Hz refresh rates and hardware-based ray tracing.
Qualcomm is working with manufacturers AYANEO, Huaqin, Inventec, and Thundercomm to produce consumer devices using the chip. AYANEO has already announced the first Pocket S Android handheld equipped with the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 processor. It will be officially launched in December.
