Smartphones to buy under 50,000 Naira in Nigeria (3rd quarter 2023)

You want to get a new smartphone in Nigeria and your budget is around 50,000 Naira? Well, trust me, a lot has changed! Due to the increase of US Dollar value against the Nigerian Naira, it is a little harder now to find a decent device with acceptable specs under 50,000 naira.

By acceptable specs, I mean 2/3GB RAM, acceptable HD+ display, and 4G network to begin with. Now, there are even 3G-only smartphones that are sold above 50K in Nigeria. But with good search and patience, you can still find a good 4G-enabled smartphone in Nigeria under within the 50K mark.

That is exactly the question this article aim to answer: listing out the best smartphones you can buy in Nigeria currently around 50,000. This list will contain good 4G smartphones that retails from 45,000 thousand Naira, running to N55,000.

So you should find smartphones between 47k, all the way to 53 or even 55K on the list, coming from a range of brands such as Xiaomi, Samsung, Tecno, Infinix, iTel, UMIDIGI and many more.

UPDATE: This article is updated on a quarterly basis, and it is last updated in Quarter 3 of 2023. The list is sorted from the best price to value ratio.

Xiaomi Redmi A2 Plus (Price: 48,900)

This is Xiaomi’s Redmi A2 Plus. It is an entry-level affordable smartphone that comes with a 6.52-inch screen and is powered by the Helio G36 octa-core CPU from MediaTek. The device comes in either 2GB RAM + 32GB ROM, or 3GB RAM + 64GB ROM, and is powered by a 5000mAh battery.

As at writing, the Redmi A2+ is sold under 50,000 Naira in Nigeria. To be more specific, the 2GB and 32GB memory a little above N47,000, while the 3GB RAM + 64GB ROM cost N52,000. Here are the key specs of the phone.

iTel P40 (Price: 52,000) | iTel A60s (Price: 50,000)

Both the P40 and the A60s share almost the same specs. These includes a 6.6-inches HD+ screen, dual rear cameras with 8-megapixel primary lens on both sides.

But if you need a better selfie camera and even better battery performance, the P40 is the way to go, since it has 8-megapixel selfie camera, and 6000mAh battery, as against the 5-megapixel selfie and 5000mAh battery on the A60s.

FreeYond F9 (Price: 49,000)

Another good smartphone you can buy currently in Nigeria around 50,000 is the FreeYond F9. I have not personally tried this smartphone, but the few user reviews I’ve seen so far have been good. The phone comes with 2GB RAM and 64GB ROM, and it is powered by the SC9863A CPU from UNISOC.

As writing, the device is sold under 50,000 Naira on Jumia. The F9 comes with two camera lenses on the rear pioneered by a 13-megapixel primary sensor, while a single 8-megapixel selfie is used on the front. It has a 5000mAh battery, and runs Android 11 out of the box.

Huawei Y5p (Price: 48,000)

My next recommendation is Huawei’s Y5p. The Y5p is both the oldest and the most compact model on the list, coming in a 5.45-inches screen. But going beyond the screen are specifications that better than most phones on the list.

These includes an 8-core Helio P22 CPU, 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM, 8-megapixel main camera, 5-megapixel selfie, slightly older Android 10 OS, and a 3020mAh battery.

Conclusions

Except you are buying a 50,000 Naira phone expecting the performance of Samsung Galaxy S23, or the Mi 13-series, the smartphones on this list should offer you the best value for your money.

On the other hand, you can name your best under 50k smartphone in the comment section below. This post is updated quarterly, the next update to come in Q4, 2023.
