Corning is set to introduce the latest version of its Gorilla Glass screen protection, called the Victus 2, and it will be coming with the upcoming Galaxy S23 series. Victus 2 is designed to provide improved drop resistance, allowing the phone to survive falls on rough surfaces like concrete from up to 1 meter (hip height) or up to 2 meters (head height) if it falls on asphalt.
This improved drop resistance has not come at the cost of scratch resistance, and the new material is also environmentally friendly, containing an average of 22% of “pre-consumer” recycled content. This has earned it an Environmental Claim Validation mark.
Gorilla Glass Victus 2 will be used to protect both the front and the back of the phone, similar to how Victus+ is used to guard both sides of every Galaxy S22 phone.
The press release from Corning, the company that manufactures Gorilla Glass, did not mention the “S23” explicitly, but given the timing of the release, it is likely that the Galaxy S23 series will be the first to feature the new screen protection technology.
The Galaxy Unpacked event for the S23 series is scheduled for Wednesday, where more details on the new phone and its features, including Gorilla Glass Victus 2, will be revealed.
Samsung has a history of being the first to introduce new versions of Gorilla Glass, including the original Gorilla Glass Victus and the improved Victus+, and it looks like the trend will continue with the Galaxy S23 and Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
