Tecno Mobile will be announcing a series of smartphones in Nigeria on the 2nd of April, which is Tuesday this week. This is based on the company’s recent social media posts and a report that we published earlier. As per the report, multiple smartphones, a Laptop computer, and about two accessories will be announced in the upcoming event.

As for the smartphones, the Camon 30-series which is expected to be the star of the show, has made its way to GeekBech, showing the capability of its MediaTek Dimensity 8200-powered CPU.

We already know that the series will include a total of four smartphones; the vanilla Camon 30, Camon 30 5G, Camon 30 Pro 5G, and the Camon 30 Premier 5G.

All models will get MediaTek CPUs, but the Pro and Premier models will be powered by a more premium Dimensity 8200 Ultimate CPU, still from MediaTek. These two variations will be modeled CL8 and CL8 respectively, and both have already registered their presence on GeekBench.

Just as mentioned above, both the Tecno CL8 and the CL9 will be powered by the Dimensity 8200 Ultimate SoC. It is an 8-core CPU with up to 3.1GHz clock speed, which is the exact specs confirmed by the GeekBench listing. However, we noticed a huge difference between the scores of CL8 and CL9 on both single and multi-core performances.

As seen in the image above, the Tecno CL9 (Camon 30 Premier) got 1253 single and 3859 multi-core scores respectively. The CL8 on the other hand was able to pull 937 in single-core and 3169 in multi-core test respectively.

Both phones are supposed to get similar test scores since they both have the same CPUs. So it is either an unbaked model of the CL8 visited GeekBench, which on one hand seems unlikely since the phone’s launch event is hours away, or Tecno is using a lower-clocked Dimensity 8200 on the Camon 30 Pro.

But in either case, both scores are still solid for a Camon device, given what we saw on the previous Tecno Camon 20-series. The launch date will be Tuesday by 4 PM, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
