As promised, Xiaomi has, through it 8th annual product launch event today, introduced the Xiaomi Mi 8 as the successor for the Mi 6 phone from last year. The Mi 8 is current taunted as the most powerful Snapdragon 845. The Xiaomi Mi 8 came with two other variants, that is, the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE and the Mi 8 Explorer Edition.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 is the first phone from the company to feature a notched display that offers an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. The backside of the phone is made out of glass that has a unique “water drop arc” design. It features a 7000-series aluminum frame. The device measures 154.9 x 74.8 x 7.6mm. The dimensions of the phone are equivalent to a 5.5-inch smartphone which makes it suitable for one-handed use.
Specs wise, the device host the aforementioned Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC along with Adreno 630 GPU, 6GB RAM and either 64GB, 128GB or 256GB internal storage. The phone features a full-sized notch at the top of the display, which houses a complement of sensors including the 20MP front camera, proximity sensor, IR lighting module and an infrared lens, and the earpiece. You get a gorgeous 6.21-inch AMOLED FHD+ (2248×1080) panel, with a huge 600-nits and 88.5% screen-to-body ratio.
On the Camera department, the Xiaomi Mi 8 features a wide-angle Sony IMX363 12-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and 1.4-micron pixel size and a secondary 12-megapixel S5K3M3 sensor with f/2.4 aperture and 1-micron pixel size, featuring 4-axis optical image stabilization, optical zoom and dual pixel autofocus, among others.
Upfront, you get a whole 20-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture and a massive pixel size of 1.8-micron. Both rear and front camera are AI compatible. You get Studio lighting portrait photography which enhances the appeal of the subject to appear like a celebrity, as well as AI scene detection and video editing.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 is available in four colors; Black, Blue, White, Gold, and will be sold in three variants:
- The base model with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage will retail for ¥2,699 ($420),
- The 6GB/128GB option will cost ¥2,999 ($470), and
- The model with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage will set you back at just ¥3,299 ($520).

Xiaomi has recently confirmed that it will be holding 2018 Annual Product Launch event at Shenzhen. On Weibo, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has also confirmed that the company will be announcing a variety of new products at the event, which could mean that Apart from the rumored Xiaomi Mi 7 and Mi Band 3 devices, Xiaomi might also announce Xiaomi Mi 8 Anniversary Edition smartphone.
A fresh photo showing the box package of the special edition phone has surfaced today. The big-sized number 8 on top of the box package suggests that the smartphone could indeed be called Xiaomi Mi 8.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Rumored Specifications
If all rumors are to be true, then the Xiaomi Mi 8 Anniversary Edition will be powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset along with 8 GB of RAM. Other source claim that the phone will be equipped with an OLED display. The notch of the phone is expected to feature structured light 3D module that will allow the phone to support 3D facial recognition along with under-display fingerprint reader.
Even though Xiaomi is yet to confirm on the launch date for the upcoming Shenzhen event, Chinese media is claiming that the event will be held on May 31, which is some weeks away from today.
