Samsung has confirmed that the upcoming Galaxy S24 Ultra will be powered exclusively by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, while the vanilla S24 and S24 Plus will be powered by the Exynos 2400 in some markets.

This is a significant change from previous years, when Samsung has typically offered both Snapdragon and Exynos variants of its flagship smartphones in all markets.

The decision to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 exclusively in the Galaxy S24 Ultra is likely due to the fact that the Qualcomm chip is generally considered to be the superior performer.

In recent years, Exynos chips have struggled to keep up with Snapdragon chips in terms of performance and efficiency. This has led to many consumers complaining about poor performance and battery life on Exynos-powered Galaxy smartphones.

Samsung offered both Snapdragon and Exynos variants of the Galaxy S21 and S22 series, but for the first time since the original Galaxy S, Samsung only offered Snapdragon variants of the Galaxy S23 series in all markets.

The fact that the Exynos 2400 will be limited to the vanilla S24 and S24 Plus in some markets is also a sign that Samsung is not fully confident in the chip.

It is possible that the company is still working on ironing out any issues with the Exynos 2400, or that it is simply waiting to see how the chip performs in real-world use before offering it in its flagship smartphone.

Regardless of the reason, the decision to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 exclusively in the Galaxy S24 Ultra is good news for consumers. It means that the most powerful and efficient Galaxy smartphone will be available to everyone, regardless of region.
