HTC has unveiled its second smartphone of the year, and interestingly, it’s again targeted at the African market. The new offering, called the HTC Wildfire E2 Play, can be seen as an update to the HTC Wildfire E2 Plus model that was released in 2021.

The HTC Wildfire E2 Play retains the same case design, screen size, and battery capacity as its predecessor. However, there are notable changes under the hood. The memory has been doubled to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and the main camera has been replaced.

The chipset has also been updated from Unisoc T610 to Unisoc T606, though the performance remains similar, scoring around 200,000 points on AnTuTu benchmark tests.

The smartphone features a large 6.82-inch S-IPS screen with a resolution of 720×1640 pixels and a pixel density of 263 pixels per inch. However, it lacks a high refresh rate display. The battery has a capacity of 4600mAh but charges slowly at 10 watts.

The HTC Wildfire E2 Play boasts multiple cameras, including an 8-megapixel front-facing camera and a quad-camera setup on the rear, comprising of a 48-megapixel main camera, a 5-megapixel wide-angle lens, a 2-megapixel macro lens, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Notably, the predecessor had a lower resolution main camera at 13 megapixels.

In terms of connectivity, the HTC Wildfire E2 Play features USB Type-C, dual-band Wi-Fi, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. However, it lacks an NFC module for contactless payments.
