The Infinix Hot 9 was announced recently to succeed the Hot 8 of last year. At first, we were all excited to hear that a new Infinix Hot-series was coming. But after the device was announced, it turned out the device wasn’t a worthy successor of the Hot 8 we were looking out for.

The Infinix Hot 8 has been around since the month of September of 2019, and the main version was powered by Mediatek Helio P22 CPU. The Hot 9 on the other hand was announced in Indonesia towards the close of the month of March 2020, and it came with the Mediatek Helio A25 CPU. Both devices have their strength and weakness, and you should be able to decide for yourself, either to upgrade to the new Hot 9, or not.

Infinix Hot 9 vs Hot 8 comparison summary

Infinix Hot 9 vs Hot 8; do you really need to upgrade? kiu 1

Advantages of Hot 9 over Hot 8

  • The Hot 9 has a bigger 6.6-inch display, with punch-hole notch
  • It has four camera modules at the back with the introduction of a 2-megapixel dedicated macro lens. The main camera is increased to 16-megapixel too.
  • Also, the Hot 9 run on Google Android 10 with XOS 6.0 Dolphin out of the box.

Advantages of Hot 8 over Hot 9

  • Main Hot 8 run Mediatek Helio P22 CPU, instead of Helio A25 in the Hot 9 (more on that below)
  • Android 10 OTA update on the way

It would be more natural for the Hot 9 to have better features than the Hot 8. But even at that, the choice of CPU in the Hot 9 is a big turnoff for me. I have seen a video where a popular Nigeria Vlogger was suggesting that Helio A25 is better than Helio P22. That is not true, and this was my response to him.

Helio P22 is better than Helio A25 CPU and GPU wise. I would say the Helio A25 is a downgrade of P22. From the CPU, the Helio P22 has 8-CPUs @2.0GHz each, but the A25 although has 8-CPUs, but in (4×1.8GHz and 4×1.5GHz) big.LITTLE setup. On the GPU also, the P22 is using PowerVR GE8320@650MHz, while A25 is same PowerVR GE8320, but@600MHz.
So in gaming and even day to day use, the Hot 8 should be more swift than the hot 9, and the Android 10 is no longer an advantage since the Hot 8 Android 10 OTA update is now in the pipe-line. Thanks for reading, let me know your thoughts via the comment section below.

  1. The hot 9 seems to be down grade of hot 8 and the hot 9 play is a down grade of hot 9. So infinix is down grading on hot series. Too bad.

  3. A device isn’t only about numbers on paper but real world performance counts the most.
I cannot say for sure one is better than the other, but if they did that in its sequel then I quess they what they’re doing. Probably, being hit by thermal throttling and so reduced it to be quite manageable during intense usage.
Nonetheless, still does not justify it being an upgrade over hot 8. Infinix is a scam
