Both the itel RS4 and the Tecno Camon 30 are two recent smartphones from Transion Holding. As far as the African smartphone market is concerned, the RS4 is the newest of the two (even though it has been around since April 10). The Camon 30 on the other hand arrived on April 2nd.

Normally I wouldn’t border comparing an itel smartphone with a Camon device, but given the preloaded specs on the RS4 and the target audience of both phones, I decided to write this buying comparison guide for the sake of helping you to know the difference between the two, and to help you decide the best place to invest your money.

itel RS4 and Tecno Camon 30: Comparison Summary

Display:

The Tecno Camon 30 boasts a larger 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a sharper 1080 x 2436 resolution compared to the itel RS4’s 6.56-inch IPS LCD with 720 x 1612 resolution. AMOLED technology offers richer colors and deeper blacks, while IPS LCD is generally more power-efficient. Both displays feature a 120Hz refresh rate for a smooth user experience.

Camera:

The Tecno Camon 30 features a dual rear camera system with a 50MP main sensor and a 2MP depth sensor, ideal for portrait shots. This sensor has better specs that then one used on the RS4, it even comes with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The itel RS4 offers a dual 50MP + QVGA main sensor. This dominance continues to the selfie camera lens: 8MP on the RS4 and 50MP on the Camon 30.

Performance and Storage:

Both devices share the Mediatek Helio G99 processor, which is good for everyday tasks and basic gaming. Storage options are similar, with both offering 256GB configurations. However, while itel RS has 12GB RAM version, the Camon 30 only offer 8GB RAM.

Battery, Software and Security:

Both phones pack a 5000mAh battery, and has the same 45W charging speed. The Tecno Camon 30 runs on the latest Android 14 with Tecno’s HIOS 14 on top, while the itel RS4 utilizes Android 13. Security-wise, the Tecno Camon 30 features an under-display fingerprint sensor, while the itel RS4 relies on a side-mounted sensor.

Pricing and conclusion

Pricing information for the itel RS4 is not yet available. The Tecno Camon 30 starts at N270,000 in Nigeria. As for the model to buy, the ideal choice will depends on your priorities and budget. If a large, high-resolution display and an overall better built quality is your priority, the Tecno Camon 30 might be a better fit. However, if budget is a primary concern, you might wait for the itel RS4 as it may be a lot cheaper than the Camon 30.
