MediaTek Dimensity 810 and 920 now official; here are all you should know

MediaTek have just introduced the Dimensity 810 and Dimensity 920 5G CPU. If you don’t know, like Qualcomm and her plethora of Snapdragon varying series of CPUs, MediaTek also have a handful of CPUs, ranging from non-branded models used in cheap feature phones and accessories, to entry-level Helio A and P series, peaching all the way to 5G-enabled Dimensity series of CPUs.

For the 5G-series, you have the Dimensity 700 in the base of the hierarchy, topping all the way to the Dimensity 1200 CPU. You may even have heard of the MediaTek 1300T CPU recently, but that model in “Kompanio” series, virtually the Dimensity 1200 5G, but for tablets, and possibly PCs.

Now, the Dimensity 810 and 920 will still seat below the likes of Dimensity 1100 and 1200, but obviously tops all 700-series. In fact, the 810 and 920 are the direct successor to Dimensity 800 and 900 series respectively.

The two new comers are built on 6nm TSMC process and both have octa-core CPUs. But while the higher Dimensity 920 has dual core Cortex-A78 @2.5GHz and six core Cortex-A55 @2GHz, the Dimensity 810 offers dual core Cortex-A76 @2.4GHz and six core Cortex-A55 @2GHz. For better understanding, here is the specs of both CPUs side-by-side

In comparison to the older 900, the Dimensity 920 offers a 9% boost in gaming performance with Integrated Wi-Fi 6 and MediaTek HyperEngine 3.0. The 810 on the other hand brings 20% faster performance than the previous generation, but has MediaTek HyperEngine 2.0. Both model will be available for integration into smartphones beginning this third quarter.
