MediaTek’s Dimensity 1100 & 1200 goes official with up to 3.0GHz

MediaTek have just announced the Dimensity 1100 and Dimensity 1200 in an event in China. These new models are currently the company’s flagship CPUs, and come as an upgrade to the Dimensity 1000 and 1000+ of last year.

The Dimensity 1100 is designed with an octa-core CPU which includes 4x ARM Cortex-A78 cores running at 2.6GHz and another 4x ARM Cortex-A55 efficiency cores at 2.0GHz, while the Dimensity 1200 SoC on the other hand has same octa-core CPU designed in three clusters, with the higher frequency being a single-core ARM Cortex-A78 clocked at 3.0GHz, 3x ARM  Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.6GHz and 4x ARM Cortex-A55 efficiency cores at 2.0GHz.

Both of these CPU models are powered by an impressive nine-core ARM Mali-G77 GPU and six-core MediaTek APU 3.0. MediaTek was so sure of these CPUs that it promised that the Dimensity 1200 can offer up to 22% faster CPU performance, 13% increase in GPU performance and 25% more power-efficiency compared to Dimensity 1000 Plus.

On the connectivity front, both CPUs support 5G SA / NSA network, brings Bluetooth 5.2 support as well. The Dimensity 1100 can be used in a smartphone with up to 144Hz refresh rates, like Xiaomi’s Mi 10T, while the 1200 CPU can supports ultra-fast refresh rating of up to 168Hz.

Both CPUs feature MediaTek’s HyperEngine 3.0 gaming technologies. The 1100 can support 108MP camera lens, while the Dimensity 1200 supports a whooping 200MP image lens and come with five-core HDR-ISP as well as 4K HDR video recording with AI camera features on both sides.

Similarities between Dimensity 1100 and Dimensity 1200:

  1. Process: Both CPU supports 5nm TSMC architecture
  2. GPU: Graphics on both CPU are handled by 9-core Mali-G77 MC9
  3. Memory: 2X LPDDR4x with up to 16GB RAM and dual-channel UFS 3.1 are available on both CPU
  4. Codecs: Both support similar Audio and Video codecs such as H.264, H.265 / HEVC, VP-9, AV1 / H.264 etcs.
  5. Connectivity: Both CPU supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, Galileo E1 + E5a, NavIC, FM Radio etcs
  6. Network Modem: Both support 5G SA / NSA high frequency network

Which phone will first use these set of MediaTek Dimensity CPUs?

Tractions for the new Dimensity CPUs began even before the duos was announced. Redmi from Xiaomi have specifically confirmed that a unit in the upcoming K40-series will be powered by MediaTek Dimensity 1200. Also, just few minute after the Chips were announced, Realme also took to their official twitter page to confirm that a relame smartphone with the Dimensity 1200 is coming soon.

Other OEMs such as OPPO, VIVO etc, were also notably present during the launch event, and it won’t be long before we start seeing phones from these guys running the new CPU.
