New Sony smartphone dubbed Xperia Compact in the works

It has been long we heard that Sony released a phone, the company seems to be battling with financial issues recently and some people has already taught that they have quited. To our surprise, there is a new Sony smartphone that is currently in the works that just got leaked today. It is said to be the Sony Xperia Compact and it will be arriving with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset with a 5.5inch display.

About few days ago, we heard that there will be some new Sony smartphones that will be released in MWC next year. Some of this smartphones are flagship phones while some are mid-range devices, we also got to know that the new Sony smartphones from next year will now be coming with a 21:9 aspect display ratio and of course, this new Sony Xperia Compact will be coming with it. It’s body measures about 138 x 60 mm. Reports we got shows that Sony only sold barely a million devices in consecutive quarters of the year.

Last year, they sold a million smartphones and in the first quarter of this year, 2019, they only sold 900,000 smartphones and in the second quarter, they sold only 600,000 smartphones. This clearly means that Sony is really going down. Just take a look at their yearly sells stats below:

  • 2017: 13.5 million
  • 2018: 6.5 million
  • 2019: 2.5 million (forecast).

But it seems they are not quitting the smartphone business as recent report shows there is Xperia Compact which is currently in the works. If they did a great job in the Xperia Compact smartphone, it might gained them more customers and fans, thus bringing them back to business. Speculations from a few months ago suggest that Sony’s smartphones are no longer for the global market, let’s wait till MWC 2020 to see if this report is true, whether the next Compact smartphone will go global or just in their home country. All in all, i hope to see Sony back.
