Nokia has partnered with German company i.safe MOBILE GmbH to launch two new rugged mobile phones, the Nokia HHRA501x and the Nokia IS540.1. These phones are designed for use in harsh industrial environments, such as oil and gas rigs, mines, and chemical plants.
Both phones have passed rigorous durability testing and are certified for use in areas with a high risk of explosion, such as ATEX Zone 1. This means that they can be used safely in environments where there is a risk of flammable gases or vapors.
The Nokia IS540.1 is the more advanced of the two phones. It features a 6-inch screen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, an eight-core Qualcomm QCM6490 processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a 48-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, a 5-megapixel front camera, and a 4400mAh battery.
Key features of the Nokia IS540.1:
- 6-inch screen protected by Gorilla Glass 3
- Octa-core Qualcomm QCM6490 processor (equivalent to Snapdragon 778 series chips)
- 8GB RAM
- 128GB storage
- 48MP rear camera with autofocus
- 5MP front camera
- 4400mAh removable battery
The Nokia HHRA501x is a more basic model, but it still offers a number of features that make it suitable for industrial use. It has a 5-inch screen protected by Gorilla Glass 3, a quad-core Qualcomm QM215 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, a 13-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, a 5-megapixel front camera, and a 3000mAh battery.
Both phones support all necessary frequency bands and have obtained all required certificates, making them suitable for use by global companies.

Nokia has not yet announced the availability or pricing of the new phones. However, it is likely that they will be released in the US and UK in the coming months.
