Samsung has introduced its latest innovation in smartphone security with the launch of the Galaxy Quantum5, a device specifically designed to enhance data protection through quantum cryptography. This new model is the result of a collaboration between Samsung, South Korean telecom giant SK Telecom, and quantum technology company ID Quantique (IDQ). However, the Galaxy Quantum5 is exclusive to the South Korean market, available only through SK Telecom, and is unlikely to be offered internationally.

Quantum Security Chip for Enhanced Protection

At the heart of the Galaxy Quantum5’s security features is the Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) chip, developed by ID Quantique. This chip leverages the principles of quantum physics to generate truly random numbers, which are used in the encryption and decryption processes for sensitive data such as passwords and biometric information. Unlike traditional methods of random number generation, which can be susceptible to external influence or tampering, the QRNG chip ensures that the data remains secure and private.

The Galaxy Quantum5’s QRNG chip is integrated with Samsung’s Knox security platform, providing an added layer of protection when users access banking and payment apps. This makes the device particularly appealing to users who prioritize data security in their mobile experiences, especially in the context of online transactions and sensitive communications.

Specifications and Features

Apart from its sophisticated security measures, the Galaxy Quantum5 and Samsung’s Galaxy A55 are almost identical. The gadget has a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display that supports HDR10+ and has Full HD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Gorilla Glass Victus+ safeguards the screen, guaranteeing resilience against normal wear and tear. The phone has an in-display optical fingerprint sensor for secure access.

Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the Galaxy Quantum5’s camera setup, which includes a 50MP primary rear camera, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 5MP macro sensor. The front-facing camera offers 32MP resolution, making it ideal for high-quality selfies and video calls. Both the front and rear cameras are capable of recording 4K video at 30 frames per second, adding to the device’s versatility.

Under the hood, the Galaxy Quantum5 is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 1480 processor, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. The device runs on Android 14 out of the box and is expected to receive four major OS updates, ensuring longevity in software support. A 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging capability provides ample power for a full day’s use, while connectivity options include 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and USB Type-C.

The Galaxy Quantum5 is also designed with durability in mind, featuring an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. Its build quality is further enhanced by an aluminum frame and glass panels on both the front and back, giving the device a premium feel.

Pricing and Availability

Three color options are offered for the Galaxy Quantum5: Awesome Ice Blue, Awesome Lilac, and Awesome Navy. At KRW 618,200, or around $465, it is priced. Additionally, Samsung is offering a number of incentives to early adopters who buy the gadget by September 3. These benefits include 11pay points worth KRW 50,000 (around $37.50), CU benefits of the same value, and additional perks for those who pre-ordered the phone, such as a genuine Samsung Silicone Case, a 2-month YouTube Premium subscription, and a 6-month Microsoft 365 Basic subscription.
