Telkom is offering a 1GB data bonus valid for two days to its customers in South Africa, as a gesture of goodwill following a network outage that occurred on Monday, May 13th, 2024.
The outage, confirmed by Telkom as a temporary nationwide disruption, left users facing difficulties with calls, data access, and SMS messaging. Reports on Downdetector started surging around 2:00 PM SAST, with many users describing a complete loss of service.
“Dear customer, we apologise for the recent network outage,” Telkom acknowledged in an SMS to customers. “As a token of apology, we allocated you 1GB Free Telkom Mobile Data, valid for 2 days.”
Telkom’s technical teams were able to restore services within a few hours, with customers regaining signal around 3:30 PM SAST.
