Xiaomi and its Redmi brand have officially announced the new Redmi 12C in Nigeria. In a previous post, we told you that the Redmi 12C is one of the best Helio G85-powered smartphones you could buy for around 85K. Well, that 85K price tag is obviously for the 4GB RAM + 128GB ROM. There is also a smaller storage option with 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM, and that model will retail for as low as N69,500.

This makes the Redmi 12C the best smartphone you can buy currently in Nigeria under 70K. Now before you say 70K is big, well, it is important to know what you are getting at that price.

First, the Redmi 12C is powered by the MediaTek Helio G85 octa-core processor, the same CPU that has been used on the likes of Infinix Note 12i, and Tecno’s Camon 18i. It is clocked at 2.0GHz and backed by Mali-G52 GPU. So you can expect solid performance and faster connectivity options compared to competitors’ offer at the same price point.

Moving to the camera specifications, the Redmi 12C has two camera lenses on the rear; a 50-megapixel Samsung JN1 sensor, paired with a QVGA depth sensor. A lot of smartphones sold around 70K as of when this article is written may not give you more than 13/16-megapixels. For selfies, a single 5-megapixel is used on the front.

All of the above specs are housed under a fairly large 6.71-inches screen with 720 x 1650 pixels. The screen is an IPS panel, it is rated to have up to 500 nits of peak brightness. Additionally, the phone is powered by a 5000mAh battery, and it offers a 10W charger, but sadly via macro USB 2.0, (my major letdown with the device actually).

The phone is got dual Nano-SIM slot, along with a dedicated space for storage expansion. You are also getting a rear-placed fingerprint scanner, as well as Ai faceID. Color options include Graphite Gray, Ocean Blue, Mint Green, and Lavender Purple. The phone is also IP52 rated against water splashes.

Finally, there is an upgradable Google Android 13 based on MIUI 13 out of the box. As for pricing, the base model with 3GB+32GB ROM comes at N69,500, while the 4GB RAM + 128GB ROM is pegged at N85,500. The phone has been on sales in Nigeria for the past two weeks.
