Apple is expected to release the iPhone 15-series in the fall of 2023, and there are already a number of major upgrades that have been rumored.

Based on all that we’ve seen so far, it seem the iPhone 15-series will be breaking certain records as far as the iPhone-series are concerned.

From the switch to USB Type-C port, to narrower bezels, and the use of Smart Island on all models, here are top 7 major upgrades to expect on the upcoming iPhone 15 series.

7 major upgrades to expect on the iPhone 15 series

USB-C port across the board:

After years of using the company’s proprietary Lightning port, Apple is finally expected to switch to USB-C for the iPhone 15-series. This will make it easier to connect the iPhone to other devices and accessories, and it will also be more consistent with the rest of Apple’s product lineup.

“Smart Island” design for all models:

The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max introduced the “Smart Island” design, which replaces the notch with a pill-shaped cutout and a hole-punch cutout for the front-facing camera.

This design is expected to be carried over to the entire iPhone 15-series, including the base iPhone 15 as well as the iPhone 15 Plus.

Narrower bezels:

The bezels around the display of the iPhone 15-series are expected to be narrower than ever before. This will give the phones a more modern look and feel, and it will also make the display look larger in the hand.

To be a little specific, the width of the black border on the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro Max, is only 1.55mm, which is the tiniest from Apple yet.

Titanium body for Pro models:

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are expected to be made with a titanium body. This material is stronger and more durable than aluminum, and it will also give the phones a more premium feel.

3nm A17 Bionic chip:

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are expected to be powered by the new 3nm A17 Bionic chip. This chip will be significantly faster and more power efficient than the A16 Bionic chip in the iPhone 14-series, and it will also be the world’s first 3nm mobile phone chip. The current Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is still a 4nm architecture.

Periscope lens for Pro models:

Also, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are expected to be equipped with a periscope lens for improved optical zoom performance. This will allow users to zoom in on subjects more closely without losing image quality.

A periscope lens should be able to capture sharper images from a distance, than the current telephoto sensor on the 14 Pro models.

Faster wired and wireless charging:

Finally, the iPhone 15-series is expected to be upgraded with faster wired and wireless charging. This will make it easier to charge the phones quickly, and it will also make it possible to use the phones as a power bank to charge other devices.
