Samsung’s foldable devices have evolved a lot over the years. However, one design issue has remained since the first Galaxy Fold. The crease in the center of the display is still noticeable. A new report now suggests that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 might be the breakthrough model that resolves this long standing complaint.
A recent publication from Korea claims Samsung is preparing to introduce a new ASP laser drilled support plate beneath the folding screen to completely remove the crease. This plate features tiny perforations that allow the display to bend smoothly without leaving a mark in the middle. The innovation was previously rumored and could officially make its debut in mid 2026. There are also reports that Apple is studying a similar concept for its first foldable iPhone planned for 2027.
The same report also highlights a much appreciated improvement in battery. Samsung is expected to equip the Fold 8 with a battery capacity of around 5000mAh or slightly higher. This is a significant upgrade from the 4400mAh in the Galaxy Z Fold 7. With more power and the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 processor, the device could deliver noticeably better usage time especially when the large inner display is in use.
One more change that could excite long time users is the possible comeback of S Pen functionality. Samsung removed stylus support from the previous generation in an effort to reduce thickness. It appears the company has now figured out how to restore the digitizer without making the device bulkier. This would help maintain the Fold brand’s reputation for productivity and reduce the temptation for users to switch to competing foldable phones.
With Apple preparing to step into the foldable segment by 2027, next year could mark an important shift in the market. If everything stays on track, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 could launch by mid 2026 and start at approximately 1999 dollars similar to or slightly above the pricing of the Fold 7.
