Xiaomi has opened crowdfunding in China for its new Smart Camera 5 Pro Full Color Night Vision. The device is available for 429 yuan, roughly $64, during the crowdfunding period, while its standard retail price is expected to be 599 yuan, or around $90.
What makes the camera notable is that it is Xiaomi’s first security camera designed for “day and night full color” viewing. The main goal is to maintain color footage even when lighting conditions become very limited.
Many budget security cameras switch to black and white infrared footage once the environment becomes dark. Xiaomi takes a different approach with an 8MP primary sensor and a 4MP secondary sensor arranged in a dual camera system. Together, they support 4K video recording and full color night vision.
The camera also includes an integrated soft light that can provide additional illumination when required. Xiaomi has included multiple night vision options for different scenarios, including human detection, event based monitoring and a mode designed to operate without a visible red light.
Local AI recognizes people, pets, and other alerts
The Smart Camera 5 Pro comes with a built in AI chip capable of delivering 1.5 TOPS of processing power. It can identify people and pets as well as detect crying sounds directly on the camera, meaning these tasks can be handled locally instead of being uploaded to the cloud.
A dual motor pan and tilt mechanism provides the camera with broad viewing coverage. It can rotate 360° horizontally and move across a 174° vertical range. Xiaomi says the camera can be used in several environments, including living rooms, nurseries, spaces for elderly care and areas where users want to monitor their pets.

For connectivity, the Smart Camera 5 Pro supports two way voice communication, Mijia Smart Connect and dual band Wi Fi 6. According to Xiaomi, Wi Fi 6 can deliver transmission speeds that are up to 60% faster.
Users can choose between microSD cards, cloud storage and NAS for storing recordings. Xiaomi has also incorporated its AOR all day low power recording technology, which is designed to reduce storage consumption while preserving important footage.
Privacy has also received attention, with features such as lens masking, on device AI processing and access controls. These additions could be particularly useful when the camera is installed in more private areas, including bedrooms and nurseries.
