Xiaomi 12-series to get a mini model with less than 6-inches screen

In the close of last December, Xiaomi officially released three smartphones in the company’s 12-series. They includes the vanilla Xiaomi 12, 12X and 12 Pro. Of these three, the first two models could not go beyond 6.2-inches screen, the the Pro version tipped a little above 6.7-inches though.

New rumor now suggest that Xiaomi is working on 12 mini version, which as per report, will sport even a more compact screen, more so than the standard 12 and 12x. The possibility of these rumor turning true is still very marginal, but if it does, the device might become the most compact Android flagship phone for the year.

Recall that the vanilla Asus ZenPhone 8, which was announced in second quarter of last year was the only flagship Android phone with a screen below 6-inches (5.9-inches to be precise). Though compact outside, but the innards of the phone had Qualcomm Flagship Snapdragon 888 CPU.

Now, it is not clear either the upcoming Xiaomi 12 mini will hunt Apple’s iPhone 13 mini with a display around 5.4-inches, or lodge itself within the ZenPhone 8 range of around 5.9-inches display.

More also, it is not clear if the CPU on the device will be a Snapdragon 888 or 8 Gen1 (which is the current standard), or if the company will be looking back to the 870 CPU used on the Xiaomi 12x. But the leak suggest that the upcoming Xiaomi’s mini device is going to be a flagship level smartphone.

Upcoming Xiaomi 12 mini rear view

It is also stated that the phone will mount three camera sensors on it rear, just like other models of the phone announced so far. Although the design on the rear will be notably different from the other models, but the individual lens specs were not mentioned. No expected date of arrival is mentioned either, but if there is really a Xiaomi 12 mini, more rumors should ramp up the internet within the coming weeks.
