MediaTek has just announced the launch of its latest SoC, the Helio G36 CPU, aimed at powering entry-level gaming smartphones. This 12nm chip is based on the 2.2GHz octa-core Arm Cortex-A53 CPU and is paired with the IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU.
The Helio G36 comes equipped with MediaTek’s HyperEngine 2.0 Lite gaming technologies such as the Resource Management Engine 2.0 and Networking Engine 2.0, which aim to enhance performance and connectivity, respectively. Additionally, the chip supports dual 4G connectivity, up to 50MP cameras, and FHD+ 90Hz displays.
The Helio G36 boasts specifications such as 8 Cortex-A53 CPU cores clocked at 2.2GHz, support for LPDDR4x memory up to 1600MHz, and a camera engine that enables high-quality Depth of Field (Bokeh) effects. The GPU is clocked at 680MHz and the chip supports dual 4G VoLTE network. Other connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and support for various navigation systems.

Looking at the specification chat above, not much seems to be different from the current Helio G37 CPU. One notable difference though, is while the Helio G37 is clocked at 2.3GHz, the new Helio G36 is capped 2.2GHz. We’ll get to know more about this Chipset when OEMs starts using them in their smartphones.
