A recent leak indicates that Lenovo could be experimenting with some unconventional hardware for its future smartphones. According to a post on Weibo by well known tipster Digital Chat Station, the company is currently testing a large sensor 200 megapixel periscope telephoto camera for its upcoming devices.

The leak also mentions that Lenovo has been working on a 1.5K resolution LCD panel, although progress on this display is said to be relatively slow.

Because of this slower development pace, Lenovo may be considering a different design approach internally. The tipster described this concept as a large screen design. As part of this exploration, the company has reportedly begun testing a wide and flat display measuring around 7.5 inches.

A screen this large would position the device somewhere between a typical smartphone and a compact tablet. This suggests Lenovo could be exploring a new category of device or aiming at users who prefer very large displays for media consumption and productivity.

The discussion around the leak also included comments about Lenovo’s current standing in the smartphone market. One user pointed out that Lenovo phones no longer appear as popular as they were around 2021. At that time, devices powered by processors such as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 and Snapdragon 888 were widely viewed as offering excellent value.

Digital Chat Station replied that Lenovo faces strong competition in pricing from brands like Realme and Redmi. Their aggressive pricing strategies have made the mid range segment particularly challenging for Lenovo.

The tipster also noted that the development progress of these concepts is currently average, and there are no clear signs that Lenovo is preparing to move these designs into full scale production yet.

In related news, Lenovo’s sub brand recently introduced its first book style foldable smartphone at MWC 2026. The device, named the Razr Fold, features an 8.1 inch 2K LTPO inner display along with a 6.6 inch outer screen. It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, includes three 50 megapixel cameras, and supports the Moto Pen Ultra stylus.
