Oppo appears to be preparing a new type of smartphone that could stand out from the company’s usual tall-and-narrow designs. A fresh leak has now revealed possible camera specifications for the rumored wide-screen device, and they suggest that Oppo could position it as a flagship offering.
According to tipster Digital Chat Station, the smartphone could feature a 200MP primary camera paired with a periscope telephoto lens. The combination would give the device a high-resolution main sensor alongside dedicated long-range photography capabilities.
The tipster also reportedly suggested that the phone could be introduced alongside Oppo’s upcoming Find X10 series.
Oppo’s wide-screen phone could launch with the Find X10 series
The smartphone in question could be the rumored Oppo Reno X, which has previously been tipped to arrive alongside the Find X10 lineup later this year.
The Reno X is expected to take a different approach to smartphone design, using a wider display rather than the increasingly common tall-and-narrow aspect ratio found on most modern smartphones.
While Oppo has yet to officially confirm the device, multiple leaks have already pointed toward the company working on a wide-screen phone.
Camera specifications could put it in flagship territory
The latest leak claims that Oppo’s wide-screen smartphone will come with a 200MP main camera and a periscope telephoto sensor.
However, there appears to be some uncertainty surrounding the exact camera configuration.
An earlier report suggested that the device would feature a triple-camera setup with a 50MP primary sensor alongside a periscope telephoto camera. The new information from Digital Chat Station instead points to a much higher-resolution 200MP main sensor.
It is possible that Oppo has changed the specifications during development or that the latest leak is referring to a different version of the device. For now, the exact camera setup remains unclear.
A 6.3-inch wide display is also rumored
Previous leaks have provided more information about the display. The phone is reportedly being developed with a 6.3- to 6.4-inch flat screen featuring extremely narrow bezels on all four sides.
The panel is also expected to use LTPO technology and offer a 1.5K resolution.
What makes the display particularly interesting is its wider aspect ratio. Rather than stretching the screen vertically like most current smartphones, Oppo is reportedly exploring a wider body that could provide a more balanced viewing experience.
Huawei Pura X offers a glimpse of the design
The rumored Oppo phone could have a design somewhat similar to the Huawei Pura X, although Oppo’s device would reportedly be a conventional smartphone rather than a foldable.
The Huawei Pura X uses a 6.3-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 2120 × 1320 resolution. When unfolded, the device measures 143.2mm by 91.7mm and has a thickness of 7.15mm.
Oppo is reportedly exploring a similar wide-screen concept while eliminating the folding mechanism.
What would a wider smartphone screen offer?
A wider display could provide some practical advantages over conventional smartphone screens.
For video playback, a wider aspect ratio can allow more of the content to fit naturally on the screen. It could also offer a broader view when playing games, browsing websites, viewing photos or using applications designed for landscape content.
Huawei has previously highlighted these types of benefits with the Pura X, particularly for video, gaming and browsing.
Oppo could therefore be targeting users who want a more immersive viewing experience without moving to a foldable phone.
