Recent leaks suggest that more smartphone makers are leaning into Max and Pro Max naming to separate their biggest and most feature rich flagships from the rest of the lineup. The Redmi Turbo 5 Max is one early example, and reports now point to the Xiaomi 17 Max and Vivo X300 Max being in development as well. These two devices are expected to sit at the top of their respective ranges, with a strong focus on photography and battery endurance. Based on what has surfaced so far, here is how the two could compare and where each one may shine.
Design, display and performance expectations
The Vivo X300 Max is tipped to arrive with a 6.78 inch flat OLED screen offering a 1.5K resolution and extremely slim bezels, aiming to deliver sharp visuals while keeping the overall look clean and immersive. Powering the device is expected to be the Dimensity 9500 chipset, the same processor rumored for the standard X300 and X300 Pro models.
The Xiaomi 17 Max, in comparison, is said to feature a slightly larger flat OLED panel, possibly measuring between 6.8 and 6.9 inches, again with thin bezels on all sides. It is expected to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, putting it in line with the rest of the Xiaomi 17 family. In terms of design, the phone may stick to a simpler rear layout similar to the regular Xiaomi 17, rather than using experimental designs found on higher tier models. Unlike the Xiaomi 17 Pro series, it is not expected to include a secondary rear display.
Both the Vivo X300 Max and Xiaomi 17 Max are likely to closely follow the design language of their existing siblings, with the Max branding mainly pointing to larger size and presence.
Battery capacity and charging capabilities
Battery life appears to be a major highlight for both phones. The Xiaomi 17 Max is rumored to pack an enormous 8000mAh battery, paired with 100W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. If accurate, this could make it one of the most enduring premium smartphones available.
The Vivo X300 Max is expected to come with a slightly smaller but still impressive 7000mAh battery. While it may not match Xiaomi’s sheer capacity, it should still offer excellent all day and multi day usage without making the device overly bulky.
Software wise, the Vivo X300 Max is expected to run Android 16 with OriginOS 6, while the Xiaomi 17 Max should ship with HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. Both are also likely to feature ultrasonic in display fingerprint scanners.
Camera hardware and launch timelines
On the camera front, the Vivo X300 Max is said to feature a circular camera housing that includes a 200 megapixel main sensor, an ultrawide camera, and a periscope telephoto lens positioned as a mid range zoom option. Xiaomi’s contender may counter with a 200 megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HPE main camera, supported by a 50 megapixel Sony periscope telephoto lens and a 50 megapixel ultrawide sensor, pointing toward a more versatile overall camera setup.
As for launch timing, the Vivo X300 Max is expected to be unveiled in China around March alongside other X300 series models. The Xiaomi 17 Max, on the other hand, is rumored to follow in April. Global launch plans are still unclear, but based on current information, Xiaomi seems to be prioritizing battery size and charging speed, while Vivo appears focused on a balanced mix of display quality, camera performance, and flagship level refinement.
