Xiaomi has expanded its entry level smartphone lineup in India with the introduction of a new model that also brings a slight change in naming. The Redmi A7 Pro 5G is now official, becoming the first device in the A series to carry a Pro label. From the outset, the phone focuses more on display size and battery life rather than raw performance.

It features a large 6.9 inch HD plus LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. While the resolution remains modest, it should still offer a smooth experience for daily activities like scrolling and watching videos. Xiaomi has also included triple TUV certifications for low blue light, flicker free viewing, and circadian friendly adjustments to improve viewing comfort.

Powering the device is the Unisoc T8300 processor, paired with 4GB of RAM along with support for up to 8GB of virtual RAM. Storage options go up to 128GB, and users can expand it further using a microSD card.

The phone is equipped with a 6,300mAh battery, which should comfortably last through a full day and even longer with lighter use. Charging is limited to 15W, so it may take a while to fully recharge.

Camera capabilities are quite basic. On the back, there is a 32 megapixel main camera, while the front includes an 8 megapixel sensor for selfies. These are suitable for casual photography but are not the main highlight of the device.

On the software front, the Redmi A7 Pro 5G runs HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. Xiaomi promises up to four years of Android updates along with six years of security patches, which is impressive for a budget device. Additional features include a side mounted fingerprint scanner, a headphone jack, USB Type C port, and an IP52 rating for basic resistance against dust and splashes.

Pricing and availability

The starting price is set at 11,499 rupees for the 4GB plus 64GB variant, while the 128GB version is priced at 12,499 rupees. Sales are scheduled to begin on April 15 through Xiaomi’s official website, Amazon, and offline retail outlets.

Even though it is a simple budget smartphone, the design of the camera module gives it a more premium appearance, which could appeal to many buyers.
